Legionella and Water Testing

LegionellaLegionella is a real risk to your people at work and to your operation.

Legionella bacteria can multiply massively if water is allowed to stand and if there are insufficient controls on the chemistry or the heat of the water in a system. This can occur in all forms of water heating or air conditioning.

People contract the disease by inhaling tiny water droplets from the air.

You are legally required to use a competent person to carry out regular water system risk assessments on workplace buildings. When did you last do one?

MBHS Legionella Testing - Key Features

We use only Government-authorized testers, and we work to the L8 Code of Practice and Guidance.

We offer nationwide service, with professional inspectors of a consistently high standard wherever you are and no matter how many sites you have. They have experience of all operations from hospitals to factories, from offices to restaurants.

Our risk assessments give you clear reports with photos and diagrams that help to create a certified dossier of your water systems.

The dossier gives clear information on the current situation, shows where risks exist, and recommends any necessary actions.

Follow-Up

MBHS will carry out the required ongoing assessments, at least every 2 years, as agreed with you.

We will also arrange laboratory testing of water samples.

Recommendations will be given about cleaning and disinfection work that is required to bring systems up to required levels, avoid hazards and meet Government regulations.

We can quote for these and any other works to be carried out by approved specialists.

Preventative measures can include the installation of Chlorine Dioxide water treatment units. These can effectively solve the problems of contamination by Legionella and other pathogens.

Legionella: Dentists and Healthcare Premises

In the UK, all dental premises are required to have a written scheme and a Legionella risk assessment for controlling any identified risks in accordance with the Health & Safety Executives Approved Code of Practice and Guidance document (also known as L8).

This is further supported by the Department of Health’s guidance documents:

  • Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in Primary Care Dental Practices (HTM01-05)
  • Health Technical Memorandum 04-01: The control of Legionella, hygiene, “safe” hot water, cold water and drinking water systems (HTM04-01). This applies to all healthcare premises.

Compliance with HTM01-05 and HTM04-01 will satisfy the requirements of L8.

Our Risk Assessors can assist you with the works and provide the necessary report to make you fully compliant.
