Moving and Handling of People Training Course

Who this course is aimed at:

Any person whose is responsible for lifting, moving or handling people where there is a risk of potential injury to themselves or the patient.

Course objectives/key benefits:

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate a knowledge of the risks of poor moving and handling
• Understand the legislation and ACoP's relating to moving and handling
• Be aware of the main problems that effect moving patients
• Assess the risks of moving a patient
• Practically demonstrate effective techniques to handle objects safely

Course content:

• Legislation affecting handling
• The risks and hazards of moving and handling patients poorly
• Accident statistics and common accidents
• Assessment of the tasks involved in moving and handling patients
• Causation of injuries and their prevention
• Techniques and equipment for moving and handling patients
• Assessing individual capability
• Protection of the handler

Training method:

Seminar including practical and group work.

Course outcome/qualification:

MB Safety Training certificate that is valid for 1 year.

Pre-requisite knowledge/qualification:

Please ensure that delegates wear loose fitting clothing and suitable shoes. Ladies should wear trousers, rather than a skirt or dress. As this course has practical elements, please encourage the delegates to inform the trainer if they have any medical history that may affect moving and handling capability.
