Effective Diploma Course Materials for NEBOSH

Support of a Tutor

Preparation for Examinations

Diploma Entry Requirements

We strongly recommend that Diploma delegates should already have one of:

  • the NEBOSH National General Certificate
  • the NEBOSH International General Certificate
  • the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety & Health
  • or an equivalent level 3 qualification

Delegates who do not already possess a level 3 qualification will be required to attend an interview with one of our tutors. This will incur an extra cost.

As a unique professional Health & Safety qualification, the NEBOSH National Diploma is intended to provide the knowledge & understanding that will underpin and individual’s performance as a competent occupational Health & Safety professional person. The achievement of a Diploma provides a path towards H&S career progression.

  3. Identification of hazards: risk assessment & evaluation
  4. Risk control & planning for emergencies
  5. Organisation factors
  6. Human factors
  7. Principles behind Health & Safety laws
  8. Criminal laws
  9. Civil laws
  10. Health and safety performance measurement

Unit B Hazardous agents in the workplace

  1. Occupational health and hygiene: general
  2. Toxicology and epidemiology principles
  3. Hazardous substances: how to evaluate risk
  4. Hazardous substances: protective and preventative measures
  5. Hazardous substances: monitoring of them, and maintenance of control measures
  6. Biological agents
  7. Physical agents: a) noise, vibration
  8. Physical agents: b) radiation, thermal environment
  9. Psycho-social agents
  10. Ergonomic agents

 

Unit C Hazardous agents in the workplace

  1. Workplace issues - general
  2. Fire & explosion principles
  3. Assessment of fire risk in workplaces
  4. Dangerous substances: storage, handling and processing

Unit D Application of health and safety theory and practice

Who is this Course aimed at?

The National Diploma is for people wanting to progress in their health & safety vocation: and is created to help them develop in depth skills and training that will equip them as health & safety specialists.

Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this course will achieve the following:

  • The designation GradIOSH can be used after you complete enrolment for a period of Initial Professional Development (IPD).
  • The CMIOSH (Chartered) status results from successfully completing at least two years’ IPD: in this time you develop a skills-based portfolio and go through a professional-review interview (subject to Privy Council approval).
  • You may provide detailed H&S advice (subject to HSE guidance and legislation).
  • Qualification to assist your organisation in ongoing H&S management and control issues.
  • You will possess a broad range of detailed knowledge on key H&S matters and how to apply the correct procedures.

Assessment/Examination System

Diploma assessment consists of three 3-hour examinations (Units A, B & C listed above): together with a workplace-based assignment (Unit D). All of these are set & marked by NEBOSH.
