Typical delegates for the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate Course

Organisations know that they need to meet their responsibilities under fire safety legislation; therefore on this course are managers and supervisors as well as people who are about to take on the role of fire safety advisor.

The course leading up to this Certificate aims to equip holders to carry out low-risk workplace fire assessments, as well as identifying what fire prevention and protection measures are needed.

The course syllabus derives from National Occupational Standards in Fire Safety Level 3. This has units in common with Emergency Fire Services National Occupational Standards. The course might therefore also be useful for fire services personnel in terms of developing their underlying knowledge, as an element within the Integrated Personal Development System.

Benefits for the organisation

Fires have devastating effects on any organisation. Statistics show that 77% of businesses never fully recover from a major fire incident.

Within the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 there are revised duties that put added responsibilities on employers (and others controlling premises) to make assessments of fire risks, and to take action towards minimising the risks, thus safeguarding people if a fire breaks out. The Certificate course and qualification is so designed as to equip responsible people to assist their employers to meet these legal requirements.

We currently offer this course on a 1-week face-to-face basis: or for those who do not have NEBOSH NGC1 Management qualification, it becomes a 2-week course plus online distance e-learning. We will also create a tailor-made course for organisations that have a group of staff needing the qualification.

Course subjects

This syllabus includes health and safety management with particular reference to fire safety; including the legal issues. Also included are training in fire and explosion principles; fire causes and prevention; fire protection within buildings; and ensuring the safety of people when a fire occurs. The course contents are designed to train delegates to carry out fire risk assessments in low-risk workplace environments.

Course assessment

The course students are assessed by 2 written examinations, as well as by each undertaking a practical risk assessment.

Course venue

We currently offer this course at our Hampshire Training Centre, in Gosport. It may also be studied online via our online web training portal.

Location: Hampshire Training Centre
