This Management Training Course is broadly-based and is at Level Three. As such, it is aimed at employees and employers alike, at all grades within an organisation.
The syllabus focuses on managing occupational health & safety. It is regarded as being a suitable qualification for a safety manager or advisor. The course is a recognised precursor to the more advanced Level 6 NEBOSH Diploma (see separate page on this site).
For the General Certificate there is no pre-entry qualification required. However the intending student should be aware that he or she needs to assimilate a large amount of data on the subject of workplace occupational safety and health.
Course Contents
Our courses are programmed as follows:
Route A: Block release. Two consecutive weeks of both classroom practical and theoretical exercises and coursework. Examinations are taken at the end of the course.
Route B: Online. Organised so as to be taken at your own pace via our interactive website, www.learnon-line.co.uk. The end-of-course examination can be taken at any centre by making a prior arrangement. (Follow the link for more details).

Prerequisites for candidates
There are no specific requirements in order to qualify for the course.
That said, we expect delegates to understand health and safety pretty completely. There is a high degree of study in the classroom environment, as well as home study time.
Therefore we set you a pre-course project to complete. You must deliver your finished project work when you arrive on the first day of the course.
The book ‘An Introduction to Health and Safety at Work’, by authors Hughes and Ferret, is used extensively throughout the course and we therefore recommend that you buy it in advance. (You can buy it through our website).
Course assessment
The General Certificate examination process comprises:
Three Elements -
- NGC1 Management (written paper: 2 hours)
- NGC2 Occupational Health (written paper: 2 hours)
- NGC3 Practical (practical assessment: workplace-based)
In order to key in with the examination schedules, there are specific requirements for course registration timings. Our courses are programmed so as to build up to an available local examination at the end of each of the two modules: or to tie in with national sittings in March, June, September or December every year.
The cut-off date for examination registration must be adhered to, so you must complete the registration process by the appropriate cut-off date: this needs to be considered when you consider which course to take. We will of course register you for examinations as part of the process.
Course accreditation
The General Certificate course is accredited by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH). The successful student is awarded a QCA Level Three Certificate.
