Who is the NEBOSH International General Certificate suitable for?
This qualification will be useful to any managers, supervisors or those who represent workers: in fact anyone who needs to know and fully understand the principles and practices of Health & Safety. Gaining the Certificate provides a strong foundation for evaluation of risks and hazards in any operation, in any territory.
The NEBOSH International General Certificate is also valuable if you are setting out on a health and safety career. It supplies a building block towards more advanced professional study courses.
How can it benefit an organisation?
This Certificate is beneficial to organisations that operate outside the UK, and multinational companies that aim to implement good health and safety management to international standards, across all the areas in which they operate. Such companies generally appreciate that their line managers need a firm understanding of the principles of managing risk; and that this is how an effective safety culture may be constructed.
MBHS are proud to be accredited to offer the NEBOSH International General Certificate as a distance e-learning course through our virtual learning college.
We can also tailor a syllabus to a specific industry application, such as the unique hazards of work in the offshore oil and gas exploitation and extraction industry. Here the delegate would study specific hazards that are associated with their own work locations.
What is included in the course?
The NEBOSH International General Certificate encompasses a huge range of generic work place hazards and ways of controlling them. The international health & safety management standards are covered, including the codes of practice of the International Labour Organisation. Where relevant and appropriate, local legislation and cultural factors are built into the programme of study.
When do courses start?
Because this is an online programme it is highly flexible: you can start and finish to suit your needs. The length of the course is decided by the speed of your learning and is not ruled by a set syllabus. We recommend that you allocate 120 study hours to the course but this is merely an estimate based on previous student experience.
However, in order that we can support you along the way, we request that you do plan the timetable of your studies. We will never pressurise you to submit assignments; you set your own pace. It is a good plan to complete the study shortly before a UK national examination day (or the allocated days within other countries where appropriate) but you can nevertheless fit your studies around the demands of your work.
What is the Certificate course assessment process?
As a candidate, you will be assessed via 2 written examinations plus a practical assessment. The latter assessment is to ascertain your ability to put the expertise gained through the course into practice. You can sit the examinations at:
- our training centre in the UK
- around the world at a British Council or a consular office
- at a facility with a learning facility as well an invigilator (who must be approved by Kawns)
The practical assessment will take place in your own work location, alternatively we can arrange a suitable location. In this case there will be some additional costs as well as the normal course fees.
What are the costs?
The recommended course price is £421.
Additional costs:
- booking fee £35
- examination fees £45 per examination plus any local fees
- practical assessment £60
What does this include?
Access to the virtual e-learning environment, full email and telephone support supplied by a professional safety practitioner, examination back-up, administrative support, NEBOSH examination booking service, a vast database of safety information, and follow-on health and safety advice and information.
